GLOBAL NEWS

After several days of light breeze, Palma delivered perfect conditions for a dramatic “Super Sunday.” Three final races decided everything, with nearly ten teams still in contention for the title. In the end, STIG, led by Alessandro Rombelli, held their nerve to claim both the European Championship and the 2025 European Circuit crown. Black Seal finished tied on points in second, with Flying Jenny  rounding out the podium. A thrilling and unforgettable finish to the 2025 Cape 31 Europeans. • ⏱ 1–3 min
A record-breaking 1,865 yachts filled the Gulf of Trieste for the 57th edition of the world’s largest regatta. Arca Sgr (Furio Benussi) claimed line honours in 1 h 43 min 42 s in very light breeze, once again turning Barcolana into a true festival of sailing and community celebration across the city’s waterfront. • ⏱ 2–4 min
The 2025 RS21 Italian Championship took place in Sanremo from October 16–19, bringing together a strong national and international fleet. ITA 241 Mela claimed the overall title after a consistent performance across variable conditions, followed by GER 289 RS Enterprise and ITA 336 Torpyone. The event also highlighted the growing depth of the class, with dedicated Corinthian and Under 23 trophies: Brontolo Racing won the amateur division, while ITA 234 Nordés topped the youth ranking.  • ⏱ 5–7 min
The US-flagged Lucky (formerly Rambler 88) crossed first and set a new course record of 2 days 20 hours 27 minutes 7 seconds on the 1,250-mile route from Sydney to Auckland. All five starters completed the race, finishing under varying weather fronts as the Tasman Sea tested crews with light air and fast reaching. • ⏱ 3–5 min
ETNZ has expanded its sailing roster with a mix of Olympic and young foiling talent: Jo Aleh, Seb Menzies, Josh Armit, and Jacob Pye join the existing lineup of Nathan Outteridge, Blair Tuke, Andy Maloney, Chris Draper, and Sam Meech. The move signals a strong focus on versatility and youth as the team prepares for the 38th America’s Cup cycle. • ⏱ 4–5 min
Advice of the week: Let the sail breathe
Tip: In light air, keep your sail alive — it should gently open and close with every puff.
Why it matters: When the sail is static, it loses attached flow and stalls. Small movements (a “breathing” sail) keep air circulating and generate drive even when the wind is barely there. For dinghies, this dynamic flow is your only source of acceleration.
